Healing Salve

Calendula flowers-Commonly used
to heal skin conditions.
Chamomile flowers-relieves muscular spasms and relieve pain and swelling caused by arthritis or an injury.
Comfrey leaves-Comfrey is a powerful contact healer. With a nick name of "Knit bone" it helps heal, repair and "Knit" the bones, tissue, and muscle together after a break or sprain. This happens because it contains the element allantoin, which encourages bone, cartilage, and muscle cells to grow. It also helps reduce swelling and fight infection. Healing cuts, bruises, burns and relieves pain.
Plantain leaves- use of bee stings and insect bites. Helps to stop the itching of chicken pox and other childhood diseases. It has been used to help pull infection of a wound. One of the best healers for cuts, scrapes, boils, and bruises.
Lavender oil- This "classic" herb may have the ability to relieve headaches and nervous tension.
Eczema and psoriasis and other skin conditions also benefit. When you add to the bath or use as a facials, it may help to stimulate and cleanse the skin. It has also been used as a pinworm remedy in children. Helps with insomnia and muscle strain. The leaves have been known to repel insects.
Peppermint oil- It also acts as an antispasmodic, calming the action of muscles. It contains as much as 50 to 75 percent menthol. Peppermint is the most effective of the mint family. Spearmint contains no menthol.It promotes relaxation. The oil can be used as asoothing rub for sore muscles *It can reduce milk flow, avoid while breastfeeding

Oils I use and there properties

Sweet Almond: One of the top choices of Aromatherapists as it is good for all skin types. A very good massage oil it is beneficial for dry skin and helps relieve itching, soreness and dryness. It is reported to be soothing, healing, lubricating, softening, revitalizing and nourishing. Good for sensitive or irritated skin. This oil is a very pale yellow with a slight nutty odor. It is a little heavier than other oils and may stain the sheets if you use it in massage. It is an excellent skin lubricant and contains minerals, vitamins and proteins.


Emu Oil: Aids in the relief of burns, skin ailments, sore joints, muscles aches, etc. Also good for psoriasis, eczema, scarring, swelling, latex dermatitis, rhinitis, keliods, contact dermatitis, Reduce roseola from rashes, acne inflammation, radiation treatments, hemorrhoids, rheumatism, arthritis and bursitis, callused feet, Achilles tendonitis sprains, sports related injuries, skin chlorine irritation, tired muscles, razor burn and nicks Moisturize cracked, chapped skin, sunburn, prevent blistering , diaper rash, minor cuts and scratches, bug bites, canker sores and cold sores, itching and burning of rashes, Moisturizer, dry, irritated nasal passages, stretch marks, under-eye puffiness, age spots, wrinkles, cuticles and nails, a natural emollient that is suitable for both skin care and cosmetics.


Grapeseed: Vitis Vinifera Good for acne and oily skin. A good oil for those whose skin does not seem to absorb oils easily. This is one of the most common oils used for massage. If it is used in skin care products it is usually blended with other more nutrient rich carrier oils. This is a fine textured, light green oil with a very low odor and a satiny finish. It absorbs well without feeling greasy. It contains vitamins, minerals, protein, GLA and some vitamin E.


Jojoba: Simmondsia Chinesis Great for mature, aging skin and wrinkles although good for all skin types. Particularly beneficial in facial and body oils as well as hair treatments. This is not really an oil but a liquid wax which is derived from the jojoba bean. It is very similar to our own body oil secretion known as sebum. It is rich in Vitamin E and will not turn rancid like other oils as it has antioxidant properties


Olive Oil: Oleo Europaea It is a good oil for skin care, especially dry skin. It makes an excellent conditioner for hair and nails. A good oil for making salves, suppositories and infusions. This is a heavier oil so dilute it 10% in other carrier oils. This is a dark Green oil which is rich in minerals, vitamins, and proteins and essential fatty acids, especiall y alpha linolenic acid


Shea Butter is a white or yellowish fat obtained from the nut of the SheaTree (Butyrospermum parkii) which grows in Africa. Used by African healers over thousands of years as an exotic luxury emollient, reported to benefit dry ,damaged and maturing skin. Shea Butter is known for its natural healthy and healing attributes which works in partnership with your skin and body chemistry as a substitute for cocoa butter. Can be used as a food, soap, candles and reputed to be used on the skins of African drums.


Cocoa Butter is also known as oil of theobroma,(Latin for food of the gods) it is obtained by grinding roasted cacoa beans and then separating the vegetable fat. It is used by plantation workers to protect and soften skin. It is a popular ingredient in commercially produced hand, body and face creams. Like the Shea Butter its benefit is it use as an emollient to soften the dries of skins, it is said to be beneficial in the treatment and prevention of stretchmarks if applied daily to the abdomen, breasts and thighs. It is solid, but melts at body temperature. A derivative of the cocoa bean (Theobromine) a bitter colourless alkaloid is used in medicine as a diuretic and cardiac stimulant


Mink oil Mink oil is also very close in composition to human sebum and absorbs deep into the 15th subcutaneous layer practically on contact. This leaves the skin moisturized, but not greasy. It is wonderful for not only preventing wrinkles, but `lifts' the wrinkles that are already there leaving behind smoother and tauter skin.


Karanja oil is believed to have insecticidal, antiseptic, antiparasitic and cleansing properties. Karanja has been used in India to treat scabies, itch, herpes, eczema and various types of sores. is popular in Ayurvedic medicine for the treatment of eye ailments, leucoderma, worms, wounds, sores, scabies, eczema, itches, herpes viral infection, eczema, ulcers, and other skin diseases.
